Terms of Service
Last updated October 15, 2026
These terms apply to everyone who uses TheBowList, whether you create a registry (a “host”) or visit one (a “guest”). By using TheBowList you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information.
1. What TheBowList is
TheBowList is an event software and celebration management platform. It gives hosts tools to build and share a gift registry, and gives guests a way to see what's still needed. We don't sell the gifts on a registry.
TheBowList is a software platform that provides online registry and event management tools. Payment processing services for gift recipients and gift givers on TheBowList are provided by Stripe, Inc. and are subject to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement. TheBowList does not take custody of, hold, or transmit user funds at any time.
2. Who we are
- Business: The Bowlist
- Address: 75 Bayly St W, Suite 15 #871, Ajax, ON L1S 7K7, Canada
- Phone: (416) 575-9895
- Email: hello@thebowlist.ca
3. Your account
Hosts sign in with an email address. Keep access to that email secure, because anyone who can open it can sign in as you. You're responsible for what happens on your registries, including anything co-hosts you invite add or change. Creating a registry is free.
4. Gifts from stores
Gifts on a registry link to other stores. When a guest buys one, they buy it from that store under the store's own terms, prices and return policies. TheBowList isn't part of that purchase. Prices and photos are copied from the store when a host adds a gift and may change. Some store links earn TheBowList a small commission at no extra cost to the guest.
5. Registry funds
- Hosts can add registry funds, such as a honeymoon fund, that guests contribute to by card. To receive gift contributions, a host connects their own Stripe account through TheBowList and agrees to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement, which includes the Stripe Services Agreement. Stripe, not TheBowList, verifies the host's identity and pays contributions out to the host on Stripe's automatic payout schedule.
- A guest's gift contribution goes from the guest's card through Stripe to the host's Stripe account. It never passes through a TheBowList account, and TheBowList keeps no stored balances for hosts or guests.
- Guests pay a Registry Service & Software Fee of 1.5% of their contribution. Before they pay, we show the gift, the fee and the total, all in Canadian dollars. Stripe's card processing cost is deducted from the contribution before it reaches the host. Stripe collects TheBowList's fees as part of the same payment.
- After a contribution goes through, we email the guest a confirmation showing the gift, the fee, the total and these terms.
- Questions about a gift contribution, including refunds, are between the guest and the host. TheBowList can't move, reverse or hold a contribution, but we'll point you to the right place if you contact us.
- Fee refunds: if a contribution is refunded, or you were charged by mistake, email us within 30 days and we'll refund the Registry Service & Software Fee.
- Hosts are responsible for any taxes that apply to the gifts they receive.
6. Using TheBowList fairly
Don't use TheBowList to:
- collect contributions for anything other than a genuine personal gift registry;
- mislead guests, or pretend to be someone else;
- post content that is illegal, hateful, or infringes someone else's rights;
- send spam, or interfere with the site or other people's registries.
Anyone can report a registry. We may hide or remove registries, and close accounts, that break these terms.
7. Your content
You own what you add to TheBowList. You give us permission to store it and show it to the people you share your registry with, so the service can work.
8. No guarantees
For consumers in Quebec: the next paragraph does not apply to the extent the Consumer Protection Act forbids it.
We work hard to keep TheBowList running and accurate, but we provide it as is. To the extent the law allows, TheBowList isn't responsible for gifts bought from stores, for payments handled by Stripe, or for losses caused by outages or mistakes in information copied from other sites.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as TheBowList grows. Before a change that affects your rights or what you pay takes effect, we'll email hosts with an account at least 30 days ahead, explaining the change and when it starts. If you don't agree, you can close your account before then at no cost. A fee change never applies to a payment already made.
10. Your rights and disputes
These terms don't take away any rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the province or territory where you live, and those laws govern these terms for you. You can bring a dispute before the courts of your province, including small claims court. Nothing in these terms requires arbitration or stops you from joining a class action.
